Vance has come a long way since politics. After high school, he enlisted and served on a tour in Iraq.

He had also completed his law degree at Yale University. After varsity, he published a bestselling book called Hillbilly Elegy which was the real propellent to fame, CBS reported.

Vance can relate to regular folks in America and comes from humble beginnings. CBS said he is “a classic American rags-to-riches.” He credits his grandma for keeping him on the straight and narrow and instilling valuable lessons.
“Successful Business Career”
Trump said that Vance had a very successful business career. The 39-year-old built his business on technology and finance, earning him around $4 million.
A Fellow “Techster” Amongst the Silicone Valley Folks
Vance is passionate about tech, and some businesses in Silicon Valley acknowledge his expertise. CBS describes him as one of Silicone Valley’s “own.”
Criticizing Tech Companies
Contrary to the fact that Vance is a tech supporter and has deep insights within the field, he has still criticized the tech industry. He called it a “big tech oligarchy,” according to Isaac Boltansky, the director of policy research at Investment Bank BTIG.
Protectionist Views Align
Vance supports Trump’s protectionist views. CBS says this could also be what boosted him with votes. There are reportedly many protectionist supporters, and CBS reported that many came from Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and the “Great Lakes” of Michigan.
Tariffs on Incoming Goods
Vance has expressed that they would want to see the implementation of tax for goods coming into America, especially those coming through from China. Vance told CBS News that these taxes should go beyond “solar panels and EV stuff.”

If the conservatives won, the would-be vice president also said, “We need to protect American industries from all competition.”

If Trump were elected president, he would enable 10% levies on all incoming goods to America. Trump said doing this will help protect local jobs and increase revenue.

Economists said that consumers will feel the tax increase imposed as local American manufacturers will increase their selling price of goods to make profits.
Vance Disagrees With Economists
Vance told CBS that he disagrees with the “assumption” that imposing tariffs would increase costs for U.S. consumers. In an American Leadership Forum held in Ohio, Vance had said, “We need tariffs to protect our manufacturing base from the thugs in China.”

J.D Vance had said in a Night Times report that he was skeptical that climate change was only influenced by “mankind.” He also remarked that it “had been changing for a millennia.”
